Christians are those who not only believe on, but also follow Christ. He said: 'If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me

"God is a spirit; and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth."

John 4:24

Various - Thoughts on the new birth... (John ch3. 7-8)

The Lord taught Nicodemus that the new birth is a spiritual experience, an invisible one, yet one manifesting itself by the results it produces: ”The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.” We can hear the sound of the wind as it finds its way through the trees, their branches, and leaves, and we can feel its existence as it touches our faces. Likewise the new birth is invisible because it consists of the inward attitudes of repentance and faith and on the invisible incoming of the Holy Spirit...

It is the good works that are the tangible proof of the inward spiritual experience. Eph. 2. 10.

It is important to observe Nicodemus’ behavior throughout the Gospel according to John:

  • His desire to meet Christ, John ch. 3
  • His defense of Christ, John ch. 7. 45-52
  • His devotion to Christ, John ch. 19. 38-42

After the events at the Calvary and the upcoming feast of the Pentecost did he finally understand who the Lord was and what His words meant that night they met? Did a Savior follow the “Rabbi” thereafter? Or is it that he succumbed to his Pharisaic activities, and the Lord Jesus continued to be a sympathetic “Rabbi” to him for the rest of his life? We are not told... And we leave it so...

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
