Texts - Renan about Jesus
"The Live of Jesus", Ernest Renan
This famous denier of the supernatural, concludes his "Live of Jesus" as follows: "...whatever the unforeseeable phenomena of the future may be, no one will surpass Jesus. His worship will be constantly renewed? his legend will cause inexhaustible tears? his sufferings will move the noblest of hearts? all ages will proclaim that among the sons of men a greater than Jesus was never born"
COMMENT: Renan, as stated above, denied the supernatural. He did not believe the miracles recorded in the Bible, and accepted and admired Jesus only as a great man! However, his last statement, that is, "all ages will proclaim that among the sons of men a greater than Jesus was never born", is nothing less than an indirect acknowledgment that Jesus was " God manifest in the flesh", because only for God can be said that there never was nor will ever be a greater one. And here we have another proof that God is above all, has need of none, and can make even His enemies testify to His existence, and, as in our case, to Jesus' deity. Yes, because "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Rom. 1:22). |
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Isaiah 1:18
