I was no older than seven. Greece was suffering under German, Italian and Bulgarian occupation. In the cities the dead of starvation were picked up by cartloads and taken for mass burial! Policemen on duty would fall dead on the sidewalks! Mother gave me a small piece of bread. Upon my complaining she said, "my son, you know from Whom you can ask for more", pointing up! I fell on my knees and prayed. I remember, of course, neither what I said nor how long I prayed, but haven't forgotten the answer that came from my Heavenly Father almost right away! There was a knock at the door and upon opening we saw a girl from the village where we lived holding a basket full of bread, cheese, fruit, etc.! She said "this is for you" and ran away leaving us spellbound! Yes, our God is still on the throne and He remembers His own! Glory to Him!
